A 23-year-old man was arrested for having an outstanding warrant with the Jackson Police Department after an MSU police officer found him sleeping in a bathroom on the Main Library's second floor between 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said. The warrant was a criminal bench warrant for failure to appear on a misdemeanor shoplifting charge. The man, who had addresses in Grand Ledge and Flint, also had two outstanding warrants with the Flint Police Department for trespassing. MSU police issued a trespassing letter to the man, prohibiting him from entering campus for a year. The man was described as a white male, 5 feet 4 inches tall, 110 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.After an 18-year-old student was bumped and dropped her $324 cell phone on the ground, an unknown man reportedly picked it up and stole it, McGlothian-Taylor said. The student was in a South Hubbard Hall hallway at about 1:50 a.m. Thursday when her T-Mobile Sidekick phone was reportedly taken. The suspect is described as a black male, between 18-25 years old, 5 foot 10 inches tall, 170 pounds with short black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a white T-shirt, black jeans and black shoes. The student was unable to make any contact with the suspect, McGlothian-Taylor said.A 22-year-old student reported her book bag containing an iPod, book and notebook stolen from the Main Library's second floor between 6:35-6:50 p.m. Monday, McGlothian-Taylor said. The student said she left the bag unattended for about five minutes. The loss is estimated at more than $430 and there are no suspects.A $120 textbook was reported stolen from the Main Library's fourth floor between 6:55-7:15 p.m. Monday, McGlothian-Taylor said. A 21-year-old student said she left the book unattended on a desk.Melissa Domsic
