As a representative of the College of Arts and Letters in ASMSU, MSU's undergraduate student government, I would like to say how dismayed I am at the ridiculous ASMSU and RHA meeting on Dec. 8.
During the meeting, a bill condemning the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative, or MCRI, was sprung on the combined assemblies and promptly railroaded through without any chance for the representatives to consult their constituents.
Not only that, debate was limited and members of the public were prohibited from commenting. How are we expected to properly represent the student body with such undemocratic, underhanded procedures in place?
The actions might have put into serious question whether ASMSU and RHA truly represent students or even care about their views. I am deeply shamed to be part of our so-called "student assembly."
