Although I usually agree with his anti-religious rants, John Bice's column, "Lazy analysis of scandal, government spending gives narrow view" (SN 1/24), is not only full of misconceptions, but it completely misses the mark.
Bice uses abhorrent oversimplification when describing three major political groups: Liberals, Conservatives and Libertarians. To hear Bice tell it, Libertarians are closed-minded anarchists, Conservatives are elitists whose only concern is lining their own pockets, and Liberals are the voice of reason and moderation here to save us all.
Give me a break. Bice seems to think that if Libertarians were in charge, America would be a place of pure chaos, devoid of regulation.
This is absurd. Libertarians believe in the Constitution as written, meaning they support the use, not the misuse, of regulatory agencies and government power. Bice might also want to explore what he describes as a "successful" government program.
The last time I checked, Medicare and Social Security were flat broke. Bice is also living under the blatant misconception that Democrats and Republicans do not have widespread similarities.
I feel it's my duty to inform him that leaders of both parties engage in illegal fundraising activities, have an interest only in their own rise to power, and are lobbyist puppets.
