Women's soccer loses heartbreaker

MSU sophomore defender Erin Doan walks back to midfield as members of the Wisconsin team celebrate senior midfielder Amy Vermeulen's game-winning goal in the semifinal game of the Big Ten Women's Soccer Tournament on Friday at Michigan Soccer Field in Ann Arbor. Vermeulen's goal came with only 17 seconds remaining in the second half, giving Wisconsin a 2-1 victory over the Spartans. The seventh-seeded Badgers went on to win the tournament by defeating Michigan on Sunday. Sophomore defender Taryn Lee scored the Spartans' lone goal of the game on an assist from senior forward Emma Harris. Harris is now tied for third all-time on MSU's career points list with 79. The Spartans' NCAA tournament fate will be decided Nov. 6.
