The bartender

This week's theme: $10 combinations

November 3, 2005

Let's say you and your friends want to get right for the night, but are low on cash. You don't want to spend too much — maybe you'll have to take a cab somewhere, a bar might charge cover, and a late-night Taco Bell run is probably in the works. That's OK — The Bartender provides you with $10 Combinations. All you need is a flat $10 bill or less to mix a few last-minute cocktails. Here's a fun tip: Go in with a friend or two to save on the costs of each Combination.

FYI: These drinks contain alcohol, so you must be 21 to purchase and consume many of the ingredients.

S-cran-dalous Lemonade

How to split: Between two people

You'll need: A half-pint of Smirnoff Cranberry Twist ($6.50 at many stores) and a 2-liter bottle of Tropicana Lemonade ($1.65 at many stores)

How to mix: One part Smirnoff with two parts lemonade in a tumbler. Add more of either to taste.

The Jolly Rancher

How to split: Between two people

You'll need: 2-liter of Sprite ($1.59 at many stores) and a half-pint of DeKuyper Watermelon Pucker ($5.98 at many stores)

How to mix: One part Pucker with two parts Sprite in a tumbler. Add more of either to taste.

Raspberry Razzmatazz

How to split: Between four people

You'll need: One fifth of Burnett's Raspberry Vodka ($7.45 at many stores) and a 2-liter bottle of Tropicana Lemonade ($1.65 at many stores)

How to mix: One part Burnett's with two parts lemonade. Add more of either to taste.

Peach-Raspberry-Lemon Surprise

How to split: Between four people

You'll need: One fifth of Burnett's Raspberry Vodka ($7.45 at many stores), a 2-liter bottle of Faygo Peach ($1.09 at many stores) and a 20-ounce bottle of Tropicana Lemonade (79 cents at many stores)

How to mix: One part Burnett's, one part peach and one part lemonade. Add more of either to taste.

When best to serve: Strictly for predrinking. None of these drinks are particularly strong.

Taste: The Jolly Rancher is especially sweet, but others taste just like the soda-pop bases with a slightly harder edge.

How many 'til you're tipsy: You'll get only a slight buzz once you and your group finish off a Combination.
