University must be politically objective

Last weekend's "Midnight Madness" was a disappointment. Not because I feel the basketball team is going to be a bust or that Tom Izzo is incompetent, but rather the whole thing seemed to have been highjacked by the United Service Organizations.

Instead of being an event to kick off MSU basketball, it seemed to be more about celebrating and supporting a military action.

As a student at MSU and a citizen of the United States, I do not believe a publicly funded university should so openly and publicly support military action.

A university's function is to educate students so that they can think critically and come to their own conclusions, not be a cheerleader one way or the other.

In the future, I hope MSU plans events that celebrate MSU and stay away from political commentary.
