Monday musings

October 10, 2005

• Minnesota knocked off Michigan this weekend, effectively slicing the Little Brown Jugular on the Wolverines' season. Not even sure a punch line was necessary here - Michigan at 3-3 is enough to make any Spartans fan chuckle.

• Don't look now, but losses by Michigan, Ohio State and Wisconsin this weekend mean MSU now controls its own destiny in the Big Ten race.

All they've got to do is knock off Ohio State in Columbus, beat surprise offensive giant Northwestern (led by 58th-year senior Brett Basanez), take out Indiana, Purdue and Minnesota, then finish with a win over undefeated Penn State.

Book the tickets to Pasadena.

• Stanley the Volkswagen, a driverless car, won a $2 million race across the rugged Nevada desert Sunday, beating three other robot-guided vehicles.

Robot cars are nice, but we're holding out for a more practical application - a robotic quarterback to guide the Lions.

• Rumor has it that the NBA wants to implement an off-court dress code for its players, requiring them to dress "business casual" while traveling to and from games and at public appearances.

So long as everyone's still fully clothed on the court, it's cool with us.
