Activist group does promote violence

I am writing in response to the article you ran titled "Local terrorist activity suspected," (SN 8/30). I found it absolutely comical that members of the group Direct Action took offense to speculation by law enforcement that they were involved in terrorist activities. I was a student on the campus of MSU during the 2001-2002 academic year, and recall all of the dangerous recommendations that group propagated to the student body through posters and fliers. Their rhetoric went far beyond the realm of civil disobedience, and promoted flagrantly dangerous violations of the law.

If the group wanted to be taken seriously on campus, and wanted to operate as a legitimate opposition party, they should have been more responsible in their messages. We should not forget that this campus has been targeted by domestic terrorists in the past (attacks by Animal Liberation Front and Earth Liberation Front in the mid-90s). I, for one, am glad that the local, state, and federal authorities are vigilant enough to identify these sorts of threats proactively, for the protection of the citizenry.
