MSU freshman Ryan Sontag has been named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team by Collegiate Baseball newspaper. Sontag was one of 13 freshman outfielders placed on the team.
Sontag ended the season hitting .349 with 17 RBI, 10 doubles, eight stolen bases and two triples. He had 41 starts in center field leading to 98 putouts and four assists. He made only three errors in 105 chances.
He was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year and received the Defensive Player of the Year award. Also, the outfielder was the leader in the Big Ten with a .473 on-base percentage in conference games.
In the last six seasons, Sontag is only the fifth Spartan to be named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American.
