MIDDAY UPDATE: MSU student competes with lifelong friends on Trading Spaces

When the popular home redecoration show "Trading Spaces" arrived to shoot in Traverse City, all of the trademark ingredients were present: two designers, two teams of two, one carpenter and one bubbly host.

But unique to the mix was an MSU student: construction management senior Adriano Vozza.

Vozza and his brother, Julio, participated as a team in the show against their childhood friends, Jennifer Buell and Dan Brady. The friends grew up in Traverse City alongside "Trading Spaces" carpenter Carter Oosterhouse, and Vozza said the small-town connection is what got them on the show.

"When Carter was pitched the idea to take the show to Traverse City, he chose Julio," Vozza said. "Carter was the one that got it all together, and it happened all in a matter of a month."

The premise of The Learning Channel show is to take two sets of neighbors or friends and remodel a room in the each team's house. A budget, a two-day time constraint and an outside designer provide contestants with a challenging twist.
