Heavy metal

April 20, 2005

It sucks having to go through a metal detector. It's almost guaranteed that anyone who does will have to go through the device at least twice, get dirty looks from those in line behind them or suffer the embarrassment of the nasty alarm going off.

But hey, SN Style knows that one must endure great trials for the sake of fashion.

And any ensemble that includes a smattering of metal accessories might set off a few bells and whistles, but it'll be worth it. Just be careful at airports when attempting an ensemble such as the one Lansing resident Doug Hunter is wearing.

1. Sunglasses. Although aviator sunglasses, such as those Hunter is wearing, are all the rage, metal ones will last longer, so avoid that plastic stuff.

2. Earrings. Take a stroll down to Splash of Color, 515 E. Grand River Ave., to get pierced. Each lobe is $15, and jewelry starts at $15.

3. Studded belt. Hunter said he picked up the belt at Hot Topic, but similar ones also can be found at Urban Outfitters.

4. Ring. It's not just for married or engaged couples anymore. Finger jewels can be found at most stores, but it might be a little weird to get down on one knee and propose to yourself.
