February 14, 2005

The MSU men's tennis team improved its record to 7-2 after upsetting No.19 Arkansas 4-3 Sunday at Ohio State.

The Spartans got off to a 1-0 lead after sweeping all three matches in doubles play, then earned a win in singles play at No. 4 when MSU freshman Adam Monich defeated his opponent 6-4, 6-2.

Arkansas was able to get back within one point with a win at No.1 singles, but MSU regained a two-point lead later in singles play. Arkansas was able to take No. 2 and No. 3 singles, tying the match and leaving it to be decided by MSU freshman Brian Compton in a match against Arkansas' Talley Parker.

Compton was able to beat Parker and earn the winning match point for the Spartans. It is the second time this season Compton has won the deciding point for MSU.
