Basketball season far from complete

I was angered by Jeff Granat calling himself a fan in his opinion letter ("Fan disappointed with season so far" SN 2/4). Instead of calling himself a fan, he should instead refer to himself as a fair-weather fan. Basketball season is far from over, yet Granat is already griping about what a disappointment the team has been.

Granat said he's been disappointed with the basketball team since he's been going to MSU. Particularly troubling to me was when Granat told the team to "worry a little less about going to the NBA or your social life." I don't think Granat understands how seriously student athletes take their sports.

As a former athlete here at MSU, I know that during the season, athletes don't have much of a social life to worry about. And then he says we haven't beaten a good team in a long time. Did Granat not catch the wins against UCLA and Stanford earlier this season?

I don't think he understands how hard it is to win on the road in the Big Ten, as with Wisconsin. Our only other Big Ten loss is against the No. 1 team in the country, whom no one has beaten thus far. But it seems that Granat, along with a lot of other Spartans "fans" have already given up on this season. The Big Ten and NCAA tournaments are both just around the corner; lets hope that MSU can show everyone what they are made of. Maybe then you can all regain your faith in our team, something I've had all along.
