There are three rules most college students abide by when leaving their homes to deal with social interaction: 1. Make sure your hair's OK, 2. Make sure your clothes match and 3. Don't smell like a flaming bag of dog poo. The first two are relatively easy to pull off, but the third is kind of tricky. Sometimes we don't shower - that's forgivable. But when you are wearing the wrong scent, you come off as a skunk ready to attack.
Luckily, a slew of celebrities want us to make sure these such things never happen. Jennifer Lopez got in on the game early with "Glow" and "Still." Lately, we've seen Tommy Hilfiger and Beyoncé Knowles' "True Star," Britney Spears' "Curious" and jet-setting heiress' self-monikered "Paris Hilton." Although every nose is different, SN Style decided to step up and settle the war of the celebrity fragrances. On a scale from 1-5, with one being the most pleasing, here's what we think pleases the senses.
5. "Curious" by Britney Spears didn't really spark interest. It's sweet-smelling, but it's basic. You really can't tell the difference between this one and what the next girl's wearing. Do you dare? We say no.
4. Beyoncé's "True Star" is a strong scent - but maybe a little too strong. It's more of a manly, less feminine smell. We'd expect Jay-Z to be wearing something like this. If you smell it too long, it starts to resemble some sort of cleaning fluid.
3. J. Lo's "Still" kind of smells like gumdrops. But it's still warm and inviting. It's a little more alluring than the last two, but it probably won't get you three husbands.
2. "Glow" by J. Lo is very floral. It's not too heavy, so you won't smell like a flower shop. It's a low-key fragrance that would work well on all occasions.
1. Surprisingly, "Paris Hilton" doesn't smell like sweaty private parts. It's very sweet, very fruity and just plain girlie. But, unlike Paris, it won't make you smell trashy, either.
But what about the guys? If you want to smell like a million bucks, then you'll just have to rob a bank because "Donald Trump, The Fragrance" won't do it for you. It smells like plants. It's very bland, unexciting and too hyped-up. Hmm, just like "The Apprentice."
All these fragrances are available at most major department stores such as Marshall Field's or Younkers. If you're not sure you want to splurge on a full bottle, most are available in free sample sizes - just ask the salesperson.
