Spartans fans faced shameful Saturday

I am a die-hard MSU fan who graduated in 2000 and was a varsity MSU cheerleader for four years. I have literally lived the highs and lows of MSU sports. But today I can say that I have never been more ashamed to be a Spartan. In fact, this week I am disgusted to be a Spartan, and I know I am not alone.

In the past week, I have witnessed our nationally-ranked MSU basketball team lose another great game to Duke and follow their gritty performance against the Blue Devils with an embarrassing and gutless loss to unranked George Washington University. And, if that was not enough, Spartans fans across the world had to stay up late to watch our proud football team give away another game in the fourth quarter to a sub-par opponent.

We, as a Spartan community, need to wake up and expect more from our sports teams that nationally represent MSU every week. It is no secret that MSU sports have developed some very bad stereotypes over the years. This is unacceptable.

None of this will ever change until the Spartan community, coaches and players strive for perfection on a consistent basis.
