Spartans eliminated from NCAA tourney

November 22, 2004

The MSU men's soccer team lost Friday to Tulsa, 3-1, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Throughout the game, Tulsa pressured MSU's defense line with several scoring chances. Some were as close as hitting the crossbar and the post, but it was not until forward Matt Thomas led a corner kick to a goal in the 23rd minute when Tulsa took a lead.

Toward the end of the first half, MSU elevated its offense with some close scoring opportunities, but only in vain. Meanwhile, Tulsa netted another goal as quickly as in under two minutes into the second half.

MSU trailed with senior forward Jordan Gruber scoring in the 40th minute, but Tulsa's forward Ryan Pore scored another goal, which was his 20th of the season, to give his team a 3-1 victory.
