Sophomore Andy Simmons took the MSU Open Championship on Sunday, while five other MSU wrestlers placed in the top four in their weight classes.
Simmons defeated Ron Tarquinio of Pittsburgh by 6-2 to take the tournament championship. He recorded a perfect 5-0 and three straight pins throughout the open.
Freshman Jeff Wimberley took third place with a 3-0 performance. In his second match with Kent State's Brent Good, Wimberley defeated Good again before advancing to the consolation finals by an injury default. He defeated Northern Illinois' Chad Vandiver in the match.
Darren McKnight, Justin Mora, R.J. Boudro and Joe Williams also were MSU entries to the final four of the tournament.
