Police briefs 09/21/04

A 19-year-old student living in University Village Apartments reported a burglary and assault in his apartment Tuesday afternoon, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.The resident said a 21-year-old male student, who was a roommate's friend, entered the unlocked apartment and began banging on the resident's bedroom door. The 21-year-old accused the resident of taking several items from his home, McGlothian-Taylor said.The resident told police he recognized the student's voice and opened the door. The resident said he had taken the items home after a party because he didn't think they belonged to anyone, McGlothian-Taylor said. He then returned them to the student, she said.The student continued to yell about another item the resident claimed he did not have and then said he would shoot his way through the door, so the resident locked his bedroom door and called the police.The 21-year-old student suspect has been interviewed, McGlothian-Taylor said.• A 20-year-old Holmes Hall resident reported $35 in personal items stolen between Sept. 7 and Friday, McGlothian-Taylor said.The student said she always locks her doors and hadn't had anyone in her room. She said she checked with her roommates and suitemates, but her Chemistry 141 textbook, watch and journal still were missing, McGlothian-Taylor said.The woman's roommate said she always locks the doors and her suitemates said they had not seen anything suspicious, McGlothian-Taylor said.Police have no suspects.
