Bounce. Bounce. Bounce. Bounce.
To honor this electronic pulse, there are a number of places in the Lansing area where you can seriously shake your booty.
Right on the border of East Lansing and Lansing, there rests a club known as The Dollar Nightclub, 3411 E. Michigan Ave., where theme parties and various DJs cater to both towns.
"We have DJs that vary weekly, ranging from hip-hop to top 40," said Travis Reed, general manager of The Dollar. "It's a little bit of everything."
The Dollar has theme parties once a month, which Reed said the themes are basically pulled from a hat, such as foam parties and the like.
Those 18 and up can get into the club Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, which Reed said are some of the busiest nights.
"Wednesday is our college night, it's one of our busiest," Reed said. "I run about 700 to 800 people to the door."
Dance club fan and supply chain management senior Johann Bodensteiner said there isn't much of a dance club crowd in Lansing but he's had fun nonetheless.
"I've been to The Dollar, but it wasn't my style," Bodensteiner said. "It was still fun, and the 18 and up nights are nice." He added that because so many younger people show up for college nights, it makes going to the club worth while.
Lansing holds a bit more variety for the frequent club kid.
For both gays and straights alike, there are two bars that cater to their night on the town.
Located in Lansing's Old Town, Spiral Video Dance Bar, 1247 Center St., is a fashionably decorated bar with plush velvet curtains, metallic walls with an outdoor patio and fire-pit to go with it.
"A bar is a bar," Spiral Manager Colin Taylor said. "But the way this bar looks, you feel like you are in a New York City club."
DJs play both inside the club's dance floor and out on the patio. There are two theme parties a month, always scheduled on Saturdays.
Spiral is 18 and up every night it's open, along with its sister bar, X-Cel Lounge and Dance Bar, located at 224 S. Washington Square in Lansing.
Right in the heart of the L-Town, X-Cel is a newly renovated bar that manager Will John said is decorated with an urban-industrial edge.
"It was once stuck in 70s (decor) and Tom (the owner) gave it more of a big city, New York feel."
These two clubs have similar atmospheres, but they don't compete against each other because of their specialized nights.
"(At X-Cel) we do a big jazz event on the first Friday of the month," John said.
On Wednesday, however, X-Cel does its Male Review, where about four to five male strippers entertain patrons with two sets of costumed shows. X-Cel has carried on the tradition of the Male Review from the previous bar, Club Paradise.
Two Thursdays a month, X-Cel also has two theme parties, ranging from beach parties to oil wrestling parties.
Both X-Cel and Spiral have shows of well-known performing artists.
"(The owner) is very committed to bring in that big city entertainment into the bars," John said. "Usually (the performers) are in the gay circuit of performing."
Performers include Niki Haris, once one of Madonna's back-up singers, and Kristine W., who has sang such songs as "Fly Again" and "One More Try."
Not to far away is another club that holds top performers.
The Temple Club, 500 E. Grand River Ave., has performers such as Tantric, Earshot and Electric Six.
There are three levels where patrons can dance, chill-out or watch others from above.
"The first-level is the Red Light Lounge, it holds more quaint events," said Jerome White, Temple Club's general manager.
"The main floor is I want them to feel like they just left a national music venue rather than a college bar where you can dance, and the third floor is a mezzanine that looks over the main floor."
Renowned for its Pimps and Hoes Party, The Temple Club hosts two a year, one of which will be on Devil's Night with performers DJ Funk and Proof of D-12.
