Whoever told you the Lansing-area music scene sucks is an idiot. But I can understand how an ignorant person could come to such a conclusion. Without the guts to try something new, you won't find much of a scene.

Lansing has a large underground hip-hop scene, along with a roots and country music scene and rock 'n' roll. We've got everything from honky-tonk to emo in these parts, so whatever your pleasure, you can find something.

The only bad thing about said Lansing scene is a lack of venues that will cater to you - likely three years shy of entering a bar. But there are a few places you can go to hear some live music or dance your booty pants off.

Breslin Center and Wharton Center, while expensive, will let you in regardless of age.

In addition, the University Activites Board and POP Entertainment bring national and international acts to campus for inexpensive prices.
