Weekend best bets

April 16, 2004
Comedy

If the warmer weekend weather has you aching to take the old beater on a road trip, head down to Ferndale Saturday night for a show like no other.

Famed pornography star Ron Jeremy will be at the Magic Bag, 22920 Woodward Ave. in Ferndale, for two stand-up comedy acts.

After the laugher breaks, a short film about Jeremy's "rise to fame" (pun intended) will be shown. Following the show, audience members will have the opportunity to participate in an open, no-holds-barred question and answer session.

Tickets are $20 and are available at the Magic Bag's box office Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. or by calling Ticketmaster at (248) 645-6666.

Doors for the two separate shows will open at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.

For more information on the show or The Magic Bag, call the venue's hotline at (248) 544-3030 or visit themagicbag.com.

The University Chorale will present its last concert on at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Plymouth Congregational Church, 2001 E. Grand River Ave. in Lansing.

The concert will consist of pieces by Adrian Willaert, Maurice Durufle, Johannes Brahms, Imant Raminsh, Stephen Chatman, Ricky Gordon and Ralph Vaughan Williams.

Tickets for the event are $8 for general public, $6 for senior citizens and no charge for students and those under the age of 18. Tickets can be purchased at the door or at the MSU Music Building Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Theater

Join the Baker, his wife, Jack and the Bean Stalk and Little Red Riding Hood - to name just a few of the characters - this weekend for a look into fairy tale land when "happily ever after" is over.

The MSU Department of Theatre will produce its version of "Into the Woods" at the Wharton Center's Pasant Theatre through April 25.

The show will be filled with comedy, dancing and singing for all to enjoy, as audience members watch the happy world where all of their favorite characters live be destroyed.

Tickets for the show are $5 and are available at the Wharton Center's box office or online at whartoncenter.com.

For more information on the show, visit the Department of Theatre's Web site at theatre.msu.edu.
