Police briefs 04/21/04

A small fire was reported near the International Center on Monday, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.An unknown person flagged down an MSU employee regarding smoke coming from a bush, and the employee notified the East Lansing Fire Department. MSU police officers responded to the scene as well.The smoldering bush quickly caught fire, but officials were able to put out the flames as soon as they arrived.Damage is estimated at $100 and it is unknown what caused the fire.• A 56-year-old man with no university affiliation told police about $40 in coins was stolen from the laundry office at Cherry Lane Apartments between Friday and Monday, McGlothian-Taylor said.It appeared the person pried open the door to the office and stole the money.Police have no suspects.
