Place: Mac's Bar, 2700 E. Michigan Ave. in Lansing

More information: Visit www.macsbar.com or call (517) 484-6795

Hours: Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-2 a.m.; Sunday, noon- 2 a.m.

Beers on tap: Budweiser, Bud Light, Labatt Blue, Harp, Guinness, Oberon, Bells White Winter Ale, Killian's (some beers scheduled to change seasonally)

Atmosphere:> This is a rock bar. Not that rock is the only music you'll hear but the atmosphere is rough, without being a dive. Play some pool, listen to some good music and call a cab home.

Best bet nights: Live music Thursday-Saturday, usually on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, too. All domestic and Canadian bottles are $1 on Sundays, mixed drinks and shots are $2 on Sundays. Happy hour is Monday-Friday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m., $1 off draft and $1 off well drinks.

Our thoughts: Mac's Bar gets some seriously good acts from all around the nation. One night, they'll host a full night of local punk, then the next, they'll host well-known MCs and DJs. Depending on the week, live shows are going on every night but Sunday.

Gig posters line the walls and seating isn't too hard to come by. You don't get your average college bozos at this bar. It's a little off the beaten path, though it's only about a mile west of the Harrison Road and Michigan Avenue intersection. In fact, the crowd varies significantly with the music that's being played that night. Check out the Web site, find a night that sounds like it'll be your bag, and you'll feel right at home at this bar.
