APASO represents all Asian Americans

This letter is in reference to the article "ASMSU funds Indian show" (SN 4/14). I wanted to fully clarify the concerns of the Asian Pacific American Student Organization, or APASO.

First, APASO supports all programs and events that educate communities on Asian-American culture/histories. APASO fully supports the Satrang event and does support members of its constituency, contrary to The State News quotations that APASO was not "willing to represent its own members." It is disappointing to see my speech misconstrued, when in fact, as an APASO representative, I was at the Student Assembly meeting to support the Coalition of Indian Undergraduate Students on the behalf of APASO.

APASO is an umbrella group of exactly 13 organizations, not 14. We fully support each and every member of our organization. Moreover, the director of Student Life did not say that leftover money would go to programs other than Satrang through the bill.

It was important that ASMSU sponsor the event because student programs are very important to this university. Events such as Satrang are an excellent way for the Asian Pacific American community to present diversity to MSU students, are fully encouraged and have full backing under the auspices of the APASO.

It is my hope that many will attend the Satrang event at the Breslin Center, at 7 p.m. this Saturday and learn a great deal from this wonderful program presented entirely by students of MSU.
