Men's tennis split weekeend contests

The MSU men's tennis team lost to Western Michigan, 5-2, before coming back and defeating Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, 7-0, on Saturday. The Western Michigan loss was the first Spartans' loss to a lower-ranked or unranked team.

Western Michigan took an early lead in the singles match, with senior Chris Mitchell earning MSU's only singles point. Doubles scores were close, with victories back and forth between the Broncos and the Spartans.

MSU defeated IPFW in both singles and doubles matches. The Big Ten regular season begins at noon on Saturday at Ohio State.
