In response to Owen Weber's letter ("LBGT bulletin boards offensive to some" SN 3/18), I am slightly bothered by the nature of his argument. Essentially, what I get from his response to the "disturbing" picture of two men kissing being burned into people's retinas is that being gay is fine, as long as the gays don't do anything visibly homosexual. Likewise, it was suggested that PRISM is working against itself by showing such pictures of two men in love. I really do not see how a lesbian, bisexual, gay and transgender organization is supposed to function if it doesn't acclimate people outside of the LBGT to the reality that there are men who love men and women who love women in this world.
Getting away from Weber's letter to the editor, I would say the response to the bulletin-board damage highlights the fact that gays on this campus do have reason to be afraid to have the same level of openness with their relationships as their straight counterparts. If the image of two men makes people on this campus mad enough to destroy it, one could only imagine what the effect of my boyfriend and I publicly showing affection on this campus would bring.
