Consuming crap sad; embrace life

This letter is in response to Patrick Walters' column ("Worthless crap great for 'U', even better for P. Diddy, cable TV" SN 3/24). When I first read it, I was mad and a little insulted.

I, for one, have never even seen one episode of "Road Rules," let alone a marathon of episodes. But after I read it, I did some thinking. I felt more heartbroken than angry.

We don't have to consume mediocrity, folks. There are so many beautiful things to embrace - sure, a little crap can't hurt - and I know that nowadays people place a lot of importance on being a nostalgic pop-culture buff, but we deserve more. So many things to read and see and do, so many things to think about.

Have you ever just sat outside somewhere and enjoyed the silence or looked at how vast the sky is?

This isn't about elitism or preaching; it's about not letting our youth and our lives pass us by.
