Tada! : Cupid's candy caddy

February 12, 2004

What is it exactly?:

If you're looking for the ultimate Valentine to give a sweetie with a sweet tooth, this might just be the craft for you. It's a decorative way to dish out your Valentine's Day candy or the perfect gift to give your honey on America's favorite Hallmark holiday.

Usefulness factor:

This chocolate candy dish is sure to delight. Not only does it showcase your sweet tooth's favorite sugar-coated snacks, it also can be given away to loved ones as a cheap last-minute gift - or save it for yourself and use as a nifty centerpiece for your table or TV stand.

Get Started:

  1. Trace a heart outline onto the bottom of one of the Styrofoam plates.
  2. Using the pair of scissors or the knife, cut out the heart shape and set it aside.
  3. Glue the two Styrofoam plates together so the bottoms are on opposite ends.
  4. Using the end of the sucker, poke a small hole through the center of the heart. (Sounds a bit anti-love for a innocent holiday craft, doesn't it?)
  5. Bend the end of the sucker across the back of the cutout heart and secure it with tape. The sucker will be used as a handle for the candy dish lid.
  6. Decorate the heart lid with a handful of small red or pink chocolates, securing them with a little rolled-up tape.
  7. Using a few more chocolates and a little more tape, decorate the candy dish to your heart's desire.
  8. Fill the two plates with the remaining Valentine's Day candy.
  9. Place the heart lid onto the candy caddy and dish out your favorite sweets to your favorite funny little Valentine.

Total cost:

Our favorite chocolates from Meijer totaled about $6.

Challenge level:

On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the Martha Stewart challenge, this is a 1. This is only a mere step above the homemade Valentine's crafts you used to make in elementary school, and it only took less than 10 minutes to make.

1 Star

Our thoughts:

Who doesn't love a plate full of chocolates? Chocolate lovers will love this craft that comes straight from the bottom of your heart. Okay, so you may get a little grief if you skimp on the roses and jewelry, but this candy caddy gives you a taste of chocolate that's not bittersweet.
