In response to the "Clear-path cause", students need to get a grip. Remember in elementary school when you couldn't go out to recess if you didn't have the proper attire?
Well, that common sense should be carried on with you today. If you wear the proper attire, then the snow won't seem so hard to get through. Purchase a decent pair of boots, and watch your step. But not the kind with a 2-inch heel, ladies. Pay attention to the path instead of your cell phone conversation and you won't fall.
The department I work in is on the north side of campus by the West Circle dorms. Our "grounds guy," Jim, is always on top of everything here. The sidewalks are plowed before we get to the office at 8 a.m. He works long hours and pays close attention to the weather forecast to make sure that his section of campus is as safe and clear as it can be. He keeps the sidewalks, steps and parking lots plowed and salted, sometimes arriving at 2 a.m. to make sure everything is done before campus traffic starts moving again.
Maybe the rest of campus isn't as safe as our section, but no matter where you are on campus, remember, you go to college in Michigan, not Florida. So to get your "thousands of dollars worth" of education, leave a little earlier, wear some boots and say "Thank you" to the people who do the best they can to give you a safe sidewalk to walk on.
