The 2003-2004 MSU women's basketball team opens the exhibition season Saturday at 2 p.m. against Zala Volan, a Hungarian basketball squad composed of former NCAA collegiate, professional and amateur players.

Despite being ranked No. 16 in a preseason poll by Athlon Sports, the Spartans failed to crack the first ESPN/USA Today national rankings unveiled Tuesday. MSU made the NCAA Tournament last season, but lost in the first round.
