What was once tagged as geeky and tacky has quickly become a popular fashion statement.

Now bowlers are bringing not only their custom-made bowling balls to lanes, but their own bowling shoes as well.

Where else but a bowling alley can you show off those red suede shoes with the yellow soles for an inexpensive price and have fun while doing so?

Located in the basement of the Union, Spartan Lanes offers 16 lanes of bowling. One game costs $2, and includes a card for another game at no cost. If owning a pair of bowling shoes for everyday wear isn't your thing, then rent a plain red pair for $1.50.

Bowlers can choose their balls from a wide array of colors ranging from hot pink to steel blue.

Interior design freshman Heather Kahgee and her co-workers from the Phillips Hall cafeteria went to Spartan Lanes Tuesday night for a group outing.

"We did good for Halloween decorations so this is like a reward from our boss," Kahgee said.

Tuesday night was Kahgee's first trip to Spartan Lanes and she said even without the incentive of bowling two games for the price of one, she'd still come back and bowl again because of the convenient location.

Spartan Lanes offers a little bit of everything, including catering packages and holiday and private parties.
