Women's soccer loses to Michigan

The MSU women's soccer team went down kicking in an overtime loss to Michigan on Friday in a conference match held in Ann Arbor. The Spartans lost 2-1 in the overtime match, but were able to comeback with a 2-0 shutout over Kent State on Sunday afternoon.

In Friday's contest, Wolverine Erika Kleinholz scored the first goal of the game off an assist from Stephanie Chavez for an early lead in the game. Not until late in the second half was Spartans senior midfielder Tiffany Laskowski able to tie up the game and send it into overtime before Chavez scored the game-winning point for U-M in the 94th minute of the game.

In Sunday's game, the Spartans battled Kent State, scoring in the 27th minute from a penalty kick by senior defender Andrea Sied. MSU scored again early in the second half when senior midfielder Michelle Perun scored on an assist from sophomore defender Emily Wiegland.

It was MSU's sixth shutout this season and the fourth consecutive year they have notched double digit wins.

The Spartans are now 10-7-0 overall and 4-6-0 in the Big Ten. The Wolverines brought their record to 6-5-6 and 4-2-4 while Kent State is now 11-4-3.
