Since Mother Nature decided to tease us with her seasonal mood swings and grant us a few more gorgeous summer-like days, this weekend is the perfect opportunity to take a stroll through nature with the one you love, or at least like.
The leaves are slightly changing colors, the sky is blue and if you're in the mood for a little romp in the woods, the Fenner Nature Center, 2020 E. Mount Hope Ave., in Lansing, is the place for you.
With its 4 miles of nature trails and numerous ponds to gaze into, it's easy to spend hours wrapped around by nature, but make sure you follow the trails - it's also easy to get lost.
The nature center also boasts an herb garden and a visitor's center with reptiles, amphibians, native birds and environmental displays for all to see at no cost.
And if you get tired of trekking amongst the leaves and squirrels, there's an abundant amount of picnic tables for you and your "puppy-dog-pants" lover to sit down at and enjoy some food.
The park also features special exhibits and events throughout the year.
"I would like to see more people come here," Mary Ellen Townsend-Mehler said. Townsend-Mahler visited the nature center this week and took a walk with her husband John and daughter Maggie.
On Oct. 18 and 19, the Apple Butter Festival will kick off and participants will learn how to make their own apple butter, free of charge.
But mostly, the nature center is the best place around town to forget about the pressures of school and walk hand-in-hand with your man or woman. The relaxed atmosphere is perfect for stealing a kiss by the big rock at the entrance or holding your lover's hand as he or she balances over the pond on a tree limb.
It might not be spring, but love is always in the air. Take advantage of the weather and get out there to the nature center - it might be the last weekend you can.
