Men's tennis hosting regional tournament

Thursday, MSU men's tennis team kicked off the beginning of the ITA Midwest Regional tennis tournament, in which the Spartans are the hosts.

The qualifying round for singles will conclude today, and the main draw will begin starting at 8 a.m. tomorrow. The tournament will finish all matches on Tuesday, Oct. 28 with the singles and doubles finals.

The matches will be played at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility and the Michigan Athletic Club.

MSU's highest seeded player is junior Andy Formanczyk, who is seeded seventh in the main draw. The Spartans have four players in the main draw and our looking to have a successful tournament, especially at home.

"We feel like we can have a great tournament," head coach Gene Orlando said. "We have Andy, who was All-Big Ten last season as the No. 7 seed and a doubles pair in the top 16."

The MSU tennis team has one more tournament, the Big Ten Indoors tournament on Nov. 15-17, to end their fall campaign.
