Drivers should respect parking

For three straight class periods, my history class has been cut short due to a shortage in handicapped parking spaces. My professor is disabled and has difficulty walking great distances. There would be no shortage, however, if the MSU Department of Police and Public Safety would more strictly enforce the handicap parking laws.

All three of the cases with my professor revolved around nonhandicapped people parking in the handicapped spots outside of Bessey Hall.

This has become an epidemic that greatly hinders our capacity to learn.I will not put all of the burden on the ineffectiveness of the MSU police (although they are usually great at giving out parking tickets). Another burden rests on the students. I understand that when you drive to class you don't want to walk long distances, but to take a handicapped spot is ridiculous.

Believe it or not, not everyone on this campus is an 18- to 24-year-old in peak physical condition.

It's time for MSU students to show a little personal responsibility and a little compassion for others.
