Dean's economic plan is visionary

In regards to Tim Phelps' letter "Bush continues to help Americans" (SN 9/24) regarding his "facts" about Gov. Howard Dean, I feel some things should be clarified. As far as repealing President Bush's tax cut, Dean truly is visionary. Visionary enough to stand up against something that, while sounding great in the short term, is getting us in infinitely more trouble fiscally than ever before.

Explain this to me: How does cutting government revenue while establishing a giant new bureaucracy (Department of Homeland Security), as well as conducting a politically motivated, poorly reasoned war, running up a tab of $1 billion per week (not to mention $87 billion more he is begging for from Congress) add up to anything but a vision for disaster? Now, I might be no economist, but I can tell you cutting revenue while increasing spending is not going to end up well.

Dean courageously recognizes the urgent need to repeal this erroneous plan and tell the voters the truth. He's not sugarcoating our problems, and hundreds of thousands of us (434,884 as of last count) appreciate it.

Last election, too many Americans considered themselves too wise to vote, and now they find themselves led by an administration unfit to govern. Dean is what's right in America.

Hopefully, the rest of the country will recognize this before it's too late.
