I would just like to ask The State News and the Black Coaches Association a question: When did the words "minorities" and "blacks" become synonyms?
Last I checked, a minority, in this country anyway, was anybody who wasn't a Caucasian (or "white") person. For those of you playing at home, white men have always dominated the total percentages of largest group members in this country.
And yes, I am aware of the fact that the Chicano/Latino/Mexican and black groups are closing in rapidly. The State News is on the right track of promoting diversity and all, however, it makes references to black coaches and doesn't acknowledge any other race or ethnic group.
How about checking to see if there are any female coaches? Or, better yet, Asian or Latina female coaches? I would hope and pray that the BCA definition of minority is not black men and women but all minorities in this country.
On a side note, I think the term minority is demeaning to everybody, anyway, because it forms a sort of "us and them" type thing, but I'm sticking with social standards for now.
