"War All the Time," the latest effort by power-rockers Thursday, is simply bad all the time.
Every one of the CD's 11 songs sounds identical and if any hard rock fan stops paying attention to what's going on in the album following the third track, he or she cannot be blamed.
The CD is a cornucopia of crud, culminating with lead vocalist Geoff Rickly's lack of singing skill. Add loud guitars and the same dang pounding of drums and you have a recipe for disaster. If I were paid a ridiculous sum of money, I could whine into a microphone about how much life sucks and I wouldn't be writing music reviews.
Generally, most music has some bright spots, but it will be a struggle for any rock fan to identify a single good note on this album.
If one had the liberty to exaggerate the truth, one could say "This Song Brought to You by a Falling Bomb" is the one of the best tracks on the album. This is because people are actually singing and not whining, and the track sounds completely different from the rest of the album.
A piano kicks off the track, which is some sick and twisted fluke of God, and it's the shortest song on the album at a little more than two minutes.
Some credit can be given to Thursday for some truly deep and poignant lyrics, but even the lyrics start to sound the same by the seventh ditty. Let us now compare and contrast, starting with the first track, "For the Workforce, Drowning:"
"Falling from the top floor, your lungs fill like parachutes/the windows go rushing by, the people inside, they're dressed for the funeral in black and white/these ties strangle our necks
