MSU-DCL addresses affirmative action

A legal analysis of the Supreme Court's decision regarding the University of Michigan's admissions lawsuits will be held today at the MSU-DCL College of Law.

In a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court ruled in Grutter v. Bollinger to support the U-M's Law School's admissions policy, which evaluates all applicants on a case-by-case basis.

In Gratz v. Bollinger, a separate affirmative action case heard by the Supreme Court, a 6-3 vote struck down U-M's undergraduate point-based admissions policy.

MSU-DCL Professor Kevin Saunders will be giving a legal analysis of the court's decision. Dykema Gosset PLLC law firm member Richard McLellan will be offering commentary about the Supreme Court's legal proceedings. McLellan observed the oral arguments presented before the court.

The event will be in the DCL board room, Room 343, from 7 to 9 p.m.
