When the MSU football team ventures to Minnesota this October, it may need to alter its travel plans.

Big Ten officials announced Wednesday the conditional change of MSU's scheduled game against the Golden Gophers at the Metrodome in Minneapolis from Saturday, Oct. 18 to Friday, Oct. 17 at 8 p.m. The change will only be necessary should the Minnesota Twins - this season's American League Central Division champions - advance past the American League Divisional Series.

As a result, any decision to formally change the MSU game time will not be made until the first round of MLB playoffs are complete.

With the change still pending, the MSU Athletics Department has declined to comment on the proposed change until Oct. 6.

The Golden Gophers play home football games at the Metrodome, which is also home to the Twins and the Minnesota Vikings.

MSU is not the only team affected by the baseball postseason. Big Ten officials announced Wednesday the Minnesota-U-M game slated for Saturday, Oct. 11, is officially changed to Friday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m.

"The Conference and the Administrators' Council regret having to reschedule football games to a Friday night," Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany said in a statement. "This result was considered to be the most feasible of several unattractive alternatives."

Wolverine and Spartan fans affected by the possible changes will be able to seek reimbursement for unused tickets or travel plans that constitute a financial loss through U-M or MSU ticket offices.

While the possibility of MSU playing a night game in Minnesota remains open-ended, the chance of a night game between the Spartans and Wolverines on Nov. 1 in East Lansing has been squashed.

With rumors circulating campus of a potential rivalry game under the lights as a result of MSU's 22-16 win over Notre Dame, Big Ten Associate Commissioner Mark Rudner said it was a case of misinformation.

"That is completely erroneous," Rudner said. "Night games are scheduled back in the spring."
