Rancid puts on new face

Ska-punks Rancid add ballads and folk rock to their musical resumes with "Indestructible," in stores now.

Rancid's latest album, "Indestructible," might not live up to its maximum potential, but it's a nice blend of the group's progression from all-out punk to having tinges of ska and folk.

It also shows off the band's variety in songwriting on the 19-song, nearly 54-minute album.

The Californian quartet sets the tone right from the start with the guitar-charged, punked-out title track. "Indestructible" tells the story of how music lives forever, beyond any musician's death. It pays homage to former Clash frontman Joe Strummer, who died in December.
