An undisclosed amount of money was stolen from an East Lansing ice cream shop early Monday morning.A side window screen had been removed from Tasty Twist ice cream store, 1307 E. Grand River Ave. The removed screen was discovered by East Lansing police Officer David DeKorte at 5 a.m., said East Lansing police Capt. Juli Liebler. A 20-year-old East Lansing male was picked up by the police at Meijer, 2055 W. Grand River Ave. in Okemos. He was carrying money bags owned by Tasty Twist owner and DeWitt resident Scott King a half an hour after the robbery was reported."There is nothing I can change about a 20-year-old drug addict with a criminal history coming in at five in the morning" King said.Hammer, pliers, a screwdriver and a crowbar were found at the suspect's home when it was searched by police, Liebler said.The suspect, who lives on Burcham Street, told police he stole the money because he wanted to pay his rent and take his girlfriend on a vacation, Liebler said.• A man held-up an East Lansing bank at about 3:11 p.m. Tuesday.The perpetrator, described as a 5-foot 2-inch white male in his late 20s demanded an undisclosed amount of money by gunpoint from bank tellers at Flagstar Bank, 1400 E. Lake Lansing Road, Liebler said.Attempts by East Lansing K-9 units to track the man failed. It appeared he fled in a car.A teller called police to report the robbery as it was taking place, Liebler said.Anyone with Information regarding the incident can call the East Lansing Police tip line at (517) 337-2599.• A 36-year-old male university employee reported 17 books damaged on the third floor of the Main Library on Thursday, MSU police Sgt. Alan Haller said.The damage totaled $850 and centered on a section of knitting and gardening books, Haller said. Each book had a center page removed.• A 21-year-old female student reported her $250 purse stolen Thursday from her car in Lot 7 near the Old Horticulture Building, Haller said. Her driver's license, $250 and a credit card were in the purse. Her car might have been unlocked.• A 47-year-old female university employee reported a leather wallet stolen Friday from her desk at the Center for Integrated Plant Systems, Haller said.The wallet is valued at $125 and contained a credit card and driver's license. She had left the wallet in her purse in her desk.
