War protesters rally at Wells

April 3, 2003

War protesters gathered outside Wells Hall on Thursday to "raise awareness about the loss of life in Iraq."

The all-day protest, which began at 10 in the morning and lasted until about 5:30, was coordinated by Students for Economic Peace and Justice.

"I'd be willing to concede if the government was doing anything right," said Michael Perez, of Students for Economic Peace and Justice. "There is no alternative, if you're not with us, you're against us."

Tombstone-shaped posterboards littered the fence by the sidewalk, portraying photos of dead Iraqis - children included - with sayings such as "Thanks, America" and "Iraqi civilian slaughtered in your name" under the images.

"A few people were more concerned with insulting than with dialogue," Perez said. "It says more about them."
