Rowers' boat honored

The women's crew team had a strong showing against Notre Dame on Tuesday, winning five of six races on Lake Ovid at Sleepy Hollow State Park in Laingsburg.

The No. 10 Spartans' first varsity eight posted the best time of the afternoon at 7 minutes 28.05 seconds. MSU's second varsity eight nearly topped the first team's time, finishing at 7:28.8. On Saturday, the Spartans defeated Indiana and No. 11 Ohio State in separate dual races at the Big Ten Invitational, also at Lake Ovid.

All three performances helped the first varsity eight team win co-Big Ten Boat of the Week. The winning group is comprised of Katie Isaacs, Amy Silder, Kirsten Seif, Rachel Miller, Christen Brown, Stacey Hicks, Laura Thomas, Kate Gay and Michelle Fix.

"They went out with a mission in mind and they were successful," MSU head coach Bebe Bryans said in a statement. "Having an individual boat win this honor is a great accomplishment for the whole crew."
