Snell stands ahead

Freshman defensive specialist Kristy Snell is MSU's latest Freshman Student-Athlete of the Year. It marks the second year a freshman from the volleyball team has won the award.

Snell, who is studying biochemistry and molecular biology, boasted a 4.0-grade point average during her first semester in East Lansing. And grades were not the only component of the award - community service was also key.

She is a member of the Honors College and was redshirted this past season for MSU. Snell is one of 15 women returning to the volleyball team in 2003.
