Spartan trio looks for NCAA titles
Three Spartans are set to participate in the 2003 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend at Randall Tyson Center in Fayetteville, Ark.

Junior Steve Manz qualified in the shot put on the men's side, and junior Jamie Krzyminski will compete in the 5,000-meter run and senior Ann Somerville made the cut in the 3,000-meter run for the women.

The meet is today and Saturday.

NCAA qualification on line for swimmers
Members of the MSU men's and women's swimming and diving teams will compete for a spot at the NCAA Championships this weekend.

Seniors Stephanie Anisko and Nick Visscher, along with junior Justin Laskowski, will represent the Spartans at the Zone C Qualifying Meet in Oxford, Ohio.

The meet will be held today and Saturday at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center on the campus of Miami (Ohio).

Baseball still in South, take on W. Kentucky
The MSU baseball team continues its southern swing with a three-game series at Western Kentucky this weekend.

The Spartans (3-7) are hoping to halt a six-game losing streak during which they have been blasted by a combined score of 47-20.

MSU's series with the Hilltoppers (7-6) begins with a doubleheader starting at noon Saturday. The series finale is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday. All games will be played in Bowling Green, Ky.

Surging softball team going strong
The MSU softball team looks to build on its successful season this weekend, playing at the Winthrop Ringor Invitational in South Carolina.

The Spartans (15-4) will be part of a 24-team field in the weekend tournament.

The invitational begins today and runs through Sunday on the campus of Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C.

Women's tennis to play U-M Saturday
After improving its record to 8-6 by winning three out of four matches against Florida A&M, the women's tennis team faces archrival No. 33 Michigan at the Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor on Saturday. The meeting will be the fourth-straight road match for the Spartans.

Men's Golf at 54-hole Alabama tourney
The men's golf team is heading to the Capstone Club in Brookwood, Ala., to compete in the Conrad Rehling Invitational this weekend. Alabama will be hosting the 54-hole event.

The Spartans will tee off at 11:20 a.m. today. The second round of 18 holes is scheduled for Saturday and the final round will be Sunday.

The golfers posted a ninth-place finish at the Big Red Classic last weekend in Ocala, Fla.

Gymnasts to meet Panthers on road
The MSU gymnastics team is gearing to go up against on Pitt on Saturday in its final regular season road meet of the season. The two squads will battle it out at 7 p.m. at Fitzgerald Field House in Pittsburgh.

In Piscataway, N.J., last weekend the Spartans finished first at a four-team meet.

Prep hoops on way back to Breslin
The Michigan High School Athletic Association Boys' Basketball Tournament returns to Breslin Center next week.

Semifinal games will be played next Thursday and Friday afternoon, with the championship games for each class going throughout the day on Saturday.

Tickets are on sale at the Breslin Center Box Office. Prices are $6 per session for semifinals and $21 for all four championship games.

Individual tickets for championship games can be purchased for $7 after the semifinal matchups.
