Manz finishes 12th in shot put in Arkansas

The MSU men's and women's track teams concluded their seasons at the 2003 NCAA Indoor Championships on Saturday in Arkansas.

The lone female representative, senior Ann Somerville, placed 14th out of 17 runners in the 3,000-meter run.

Junior Steve Manz placed 12th in the shot put with a throw of 61-2 1/4.


2 Spartans qualify for championships

Two members of the MSU men's swimming and diving team qualified for the NCAA Diving Championships this weekend.

Junior Justin Laskowski and senior Nick Visscher qualified for the championships at the NCAA Zone C Qualifying Meet in Oxford, Ohio.

On the women's side, senior Stephanie Anisko failed to qualify for the championships.

Laskowski and Visscher will compete at the NCAA Championships on March 27-29 in Austin, Texas.


Gymnasts defeat Pitt with score of 195.250M

The MSU gymnastics team posted its second-highest score of the season as it bested Pitt in a weekend meet.

The Spartans (14-6, 2-2 Big Ten) defeated the Panthers 195.250-194.650 in Pittsburgh.

MSU clinched the victory on the uneven bars, as the Spartans held four of the top five spots, including senior Diana Crea winning the event with a 9.925.


Tennis falls to Bucks by 1 match at home

The MSU men's tennis team opened Big Ten play with a close loss to No. 22 Ohio State.

The Spartans (9-6, 0-1 Big Ten) fell to the Buckeyes (11-4, 2-0) 4-3 at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.

The one-point loss was the Spartans third such loss of the 2003 season.

The match was decided in doubles play as the Buckeyes took two of three doubles matches from MSU, while the teams split six singles matches.
