Grapplers go to battle with No. 2 Hawkeyes

The MSU wrestling team's six-match homestand culminates with more top-25 action.

The 14th-ranked Spartans (5-5, 2-1 Big Ten) host No. 2 Iowa (12-2, 2-0) and archrival No. 7 Michigan (8-4, 3-0).

Senior Karl Nadolsky became just the 13th wrestler in MSU history to reach the 100-win plateau by going 2-0 last weekend.

The matchup with the Hawkeyes kicks off at 7 p.m. today, while the Spartans mix it up with the Wolverines at 1 p.m. Sunday. Both matches will be held at Jenison Field House.

Simonton looks to add to 6-match win streak

The MSU tennis team is aiming to stay undefeated.

As a result of starting the season 6-0, the Spartans attained their first ranking this season as they are ranked No. 65 by Omni Hotels NCAA Rankings.

With four more victories, MSU will eclipse the mark it set in 1992 for consecutive wins in a season.

Junior Eric Simonton looks to stay hot, as he is on a six-match winning streak in singles play.

The Spartans play host to DePaul at 9 a.m. and Xavier at 5 p.m. Saturday at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.

Devaty, gymnasts hope to topple Iowa on road

After climbing back to .500 last weekend, the MSU gymnastics team hits the road for Big Ten action this weekend.

The Spartans (4-4) finished first out of five teams in the State of Michigan Classic at Jenison Field House, including No. 11 U-M, who MSU defeated for the first time in seven years.

Senior co-captain Julie Devaty was named Co-Big Ten Gymnast of the Week after posting a career-high mark on the balance beam (9.925) and placing second in the floor exercise (9.875) last weekend.

Next up for MSU is Iowa as the Spartans travel to Iowa City for Saturday's meet.

Women's tennis to host nonconference foes

The MSU women's tennis team hopes to end its six-match homestand on a winning note.

After earning a split last weekend, the Spartans (3-3) look to go 5-1 this weekend. The matches against DePaul and Miami (Ohio) are the last two before MSU turns its attention to Big Ten play.

The meeting with the Blue Demons is set to start at 5 p.m. today, while the Spartans square off with the RedHawks at 10 a.m. Saturday. Both matches can be seen at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.

Senior diver named Big Ten Diver of Week

Senior diver Stephanie Anisko was named the Big Ten Women's Diver of the Week by the conference Tuesday.

In her final collegiate dual meet, Anisko compiled a pair of top-two finishes as the Spartans downed Oakland, 131-111.

Next up for MSU is the Big Ten Tournament which runs from Feb. 19-22 in West Lafayette, Ind.

Track, field compete against fighting Irish

For the second consecutive weekend, the MSU men's and women's track teams will travel to South Bend, Ind.

After competing in a dual meet, the two teams return to the home of the Fightin' Irish to take part in the Meyo Invitational.

Competing along with the Spartans and Fightin' Irish are U-M, Georgetown, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Windsor.

The event is set to begin today with five events. The rest of the events will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Women's water polo hosts 6-team event

The MSU women's water polo team is hosting the 10th annual Spartan Classic this weekend.

The back-to-back Big Ten and National championship Spartans host Miami (Ohio), Eastern Michigan and Notre Dame along with Big Ten foes Northwestern, Ohio State and Purdue.

The event is sponsored by the Residence Halls Association and takes place Friday-Sunday at IM Sports-West. Admission is free with a valid student or faculty/staff ID.
