Golf tournament ends after second round

The MSU women's golf team tied with Georgia for 10th place in the 18-team Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge.

The Spartans didn't have the opportunity to improve on their two-round score of 635 (312-323), as the final day of competition was canceled due to heavy rainfall.

Junior Allison Fouch was MSU's top performer, tied for 22nd place after tallying a two-round score of 154 (74-80).

Pepperdine finished atop the leader board, followed by No. 9 Southern California and No. 1 Arizona.

Grapplers focus on Tar Heels, Nittany Lions

The MSU wrestling team hopes to end the home portion of its season on a winning note this weekend. The No. 7 Spartans (7-5 overall, 4-1 Big Ten) host North Carolina (8-4) and No. 12 Penn State (10-6, 3-3) and are looking to go 6-2 at home in 2003.

Last weekend's victories were highlighted with senior Gray Maynard being named Co-Big Ten Wrestler of the week, after he defeated two top-10 wrestlers in MSU's upsets of No. 2 Iowa and No. 9 Michigan.

The matchup with the Tar Heels kicks off at 7 tonight, while the Spartans face the Nittany Lions at 1 p.m. Sunday. Both matches will be held at Jenison Field House.

Track, field heads to New York, Ypsilanti

Both the men's and women's track teams will be busy this weekend participating in their final competitions prior to the Big Ten championship, which start on March 1.

The women's team will be in New York, for the Armory Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Armory Invitational is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. both days. The men's team will be traveling to Ypsilanti this weekend for the Eastern Michigan University Classic.

Tennis puts flawless record on line on road

The MSU men's tennis team is set to take its undefeated record on the road this weekend.

The No. 66 Spartans (8-0) travel to Muncie, Ind., to face Ball State (4-2). In singles play, junior Eric Simonton and sophomore Cameron Marshall sit atop the team leaderboard with 14 victories apiece for the Spartans.

MSU returns home to face Notre Dame at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.

Golf starts spring with 2-day away exhibition

The MSU men's golf team will open the 2003 spring season with The Green and White Alumni Golf Challenge.

The 24th-ranked Spartans will compete against MSU alumni in this one-day, 36-hole exhibition event at Champions Golf Club in Houston.

The Spartans are looking forward to a successful spring campaign, after a fall season where MSU earned tournament victories at the Wolverine Invitational.

Tennis starts in Big Ten

Following six consecutive home matches, the MSU women's tennis team opens Big Ten play this weekend.

After going 5-1 in East Lansing, the Spartans (5-3) open conference play with matches in Columbus, Ohio on Friday and University Park, Pa., on Sunday against No. 44 Ohio State and Penn State, respectively.

Gymnasts look for win

The MSU women's gymnastic team is heading to Durham, N.H., on Saturday to compete in the Fox Run Invitational.

Following a loss last weekend at Iowa, the Spartans are aiming for a road win. The team are host New Hampshire, George Washington and Bowling Green. The competition will be held at the Whittemore Center at 7 p.m.
