Boarshead plays children's show

February 20, 2003

The classic fairy tale "The Frog Prince" is being brought to life at the Boarshead Theater, 425 S. Grand Ave. in Lansing.

All tickets are $6 and the show is playing 7 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

The story is perfect for families looking for a night of entertainment.

Audience members are even invited to show up 30 minutes before the curtain rises to help make wildflowers used in the production.

The making of flowers has become a tradition with many productions of the fairy tale.

The David Mamet play begins with a handsome prince picking flowers for his bride on the day before their wedding.

On his flower-collecting mission he encounters an old peasant woman who wants the flowers.

When he refuses to hand them over, she turns him into a frog with the condition that only the love of a woman can return him to his former handsome self. But his troubles don't end there. If the prince reveals his identity, he will remain a frog forever.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning author's play has been a hit with children and families. Adapted from a story by the Brothers Grimm, it is one of three plays Mamet wrote for children.
